Thanks Doug, I enjoyed your studies. Some actually make my brain work overtime, but it's well worth the effort

"Watchtower's Achilles' Heel" is available in Spanish
by Doug Mason inthe watchtowers achilles heel is available in spanish.. if reasoning with a jw on the governing bodys interpretations such as of the kingdom of god, parousia, the cross, blood, and so on is unlikely to break the governing bodys mental stranglehold, what then is its achilles heel?.
my study: the watchtowers achilles heel answers that question.

607 vs 587 BC - Cyrus Cylinder
by objectivetruth inhi everyone,.
i'm researching 587 vs 607 for the date of the destruction of jerusalem... i'm not doing the research to prove or disprove anything about 1914, rather i'm looking at these dates in comparison to 1948 & 1967.. what is your view on relying on the cyrus cylinder, to accept 607 as the correct date of destruction... i know that there are many other factors.. but i'm trying to keep this portion of my research as simple as possible, so i'm primarily interested in the appropriateness of using the cylinders date of 537 + 70 = 607. one other question.. is it likely that both dates 587 & 607 have their own significance?.

Sorry,
You are quite the serious man. I certainly don't intend an insult when I use the word apostate. If anything, I use it mockingly of the WT. Evidently (there, more mockery), the written word does not convey the subtleties that sound and images convey.
Even though humor doesn't seem to be your forte, I stilll appreciate your great work, as well as I appreciate COJ, J Penton, R. Franz, D. Mason and many others. Thank you. Sorry if I sounded flippant.

Hey Jetro,
I have kept correspondence with some apostates, even well known ones. I have done few translations to Spanish for them. The problem is that they live thousands of miles from California. I want to meet an apostate before I quit this JW business (when my children are out, few others too, why not). I want to find out if apostates have horns and tails. Hey, if they sit at the table of demons, horns and tails can be expected.
If you live somewhere near L.A., food is on me. You choose the place and I bring the credit card.

English please, I get in a bad mood, very tense indeed, almost periphrastic and lexical at times when people speak with such customariness.
I am sure I can impress few people with this, even though I have no idea what the hell I am talking about.

Evolution is just a theory

Theory of relativity is just a theory, and, just as the theory of evolution, has been proven true time and time again. Religious fundamentalists, that is creationists, have convictons about creation that are disproven time and time again. Which do I keep? Far and away I keep the theory with proofs.
NOTE: Evolution has been proven to have happenned. How exactly? That's another story that is still being debated.

An important difference between atheists and true believers
by Hortensia intrue believers, whether christian, muslim or whatever, want to convert you, they want you to believe what they do, and they're willing to go to extremes to make it happen.
atheists don't really care what you believe, and don't go out of their way to convert someone.. http://ow.ly/vn1jz an example of what believers in power do to suppress any difference in thought.
http://ow.ly/vraeo an example of why believers want to suppress different ideas (because they can't win in a fair fight, that's why).

Rather ironic that atheists in general don't proselytize, but get more converts lately than religious people do. If I am not mistaken the Pew research shows that the biggest growth is in people who don't want to be associated with organized religion (I am sure plenty of atheists in this group)

The most disturbing Watchtower quote in 2013.
by never a jw ini am trying to put together the worst of 2013. the first quote that comes to mind is possibly your "favorite" too.
do you have any other disturbing quotes from the publications in the wt?.
elders who are reading this article can draw some useful conclusions from the account we have just considered: (1) the most practical step that we can take to prepare for the coming attack of the assyrian is that of strengthening our faith in god and helping our brothers to do the same.

“ la organización de Jehová nos dirá qué hacer . Todos deberemos obedecer sus instrucciones, aunque nos parezcan extrañas, ilógicas o no estemos de acuerdo con ellas. Solo nos salvaremos si las obedecemos. ” (Atalaya en lenguaje sencillo Nov 2013, p. 20) .
I think the message in the Watchtower in Spanish in simple language is even more creepy (above). I will translate as closely to the text as I can:
Jehovah's organization will tell us what to do. All of us must obey His instructions, even if they they seem weird, not logical, or even if we don't agree with them. We will be saved only if we obey them (Watchtower simple language Nov. 2013, p.20)

The genius of the new donation arrangement
by thedepressedsoul inive given this new arrangement a lot of detailed thought and how greatly it benefits the wt and how much it puts a strain on each congregation.. first, let me explain how the old arrangement worked.. you had 3 donation boxes in each kingdom hall.
one for worldwide work, one for kingdom hall construction and one for congregation contributions.. the congregation contribution box accounted for about 60-75% of all donations.
the world wide work box probably accounted for 20-30% and the kingdom hall construction for about 5% of the contributions.

Now the elders understand more specifically the purpose of "do what we tell you to do, whether it makes sense or not" (paraphrasing). Cognitive disonance at a peak now.
